What Is SEO

EO or Search Engine Optimization has eluded the vast majority of people who think to claim a portion of the Internet. Entire companies have been created around this fact.

In today’s world of social networking the very concept of SEO has become much easier. Oh sure, you can get lost in the advanced details of how to make SEO pay off for you but that is no longer necessary or advisable with the Internet technologies that are available today.

Let’s take a brief look at what SEO is and then find out how people are implementing this marketing tool in the current Internet Marketing age of social networking.

SEO is a way of preparing your Website for search engines to rank you in their various directories in a way that you will be found. The higher up you are in their systems the greater the possibility of being found.

Google is probably the most used search engine. Yahoo & MSN bring their own technologies to play. At the time of this writing BING is the newest search engine I know about. While these are the big players of the search engine wars they certainly are not the only one’s by a long shot.

Paying attention to concepts like

* Title Tags
* Meta Information
* Long Tail Keywords

And the like all affect your SEO results from an internal standpoint.

Externally, you would be working with establishing appropriate power links with the right Websites that increase your ratings.

To cover the finer points of SEO and how to optimize your Website according to its methods would take far more than a single short article like this. The purpose of this brief article is to explain that SEO still has a place in today’s popular social networking Internet world.

Perhaps the most important SEO take away today is to understand what longtail keywords are and how to optimize keywords accordingly.

For purposes of our example let’s use “chocolate” as the keyword of interest. If you type that word into the search engines possible results could be “healthy chocolate, chocolate lab, I’ve even seen results for chocolate “IPods.”

Clearly centering on the word “chocolate” as your keyword is not going to help you reach your target audience. However, when you incorporate the concepts of longtail keywords you can reach “healthy dark Xocai chocolate.” If that is your target, when people research this phrase and find you, then both you and they will be much happier.

Using this one concept you can lead a large number of people directly to your offerings. Fact is, you can even do this quite successfully within the world of social networking. However, those are topics for other articles. The take away here is that SEO and Social Networking do indeed both have their place in today’s Internet Marketing strategies.
